Description
Oxfendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic effective used to protect livestock against gastrointestinal parasitism. Strongyles, roundworms, and pinworms can be eliminated by this medical drug. Oxfendazole has a broad-spectrum activity against larval stages, cestodes, and lungworms.
Oxfendazole is an anthelmintic compound used in veterinary practice. It falls under the chemical class of benzimidazoles. This drug is seldom used in horses, goats, sheep, and cattle. Sheep are treated more frequently than cattle, due to their grazing pattern. In case the pasture contamination is high then the sheep are treated more than 4-5 times a year with this medical drug. It is rarely applied to dogs and cats. The drug for livestock is majorly available in the form of pills, tablets, drenches, bolus, etc. It is consumed orally. For pet dogs, the drug is available in the form of drenches.
Oxfendazole mode of operation:
The molecular mode of operation of Oxfendazole, consists in binding to tubulin, a structural protein of microtubules of the worms that perturbs the uptake of glucose, which eventually empties the glycogen reserves. This blocks the whole energy management mechanism of the worms that are paralyzed and die or are expelled.
Synonyms of Oxfendazole:
Oxfendazole is also known as Fenbendazole Sulphoxide and Fenbendazole Sulfoxide.
Oxfendazole active ingredients:
Ivermectin 5.3 mg/g, Pyrantel Embonate 345.1 mg/g, and Praziquantel 39.8 mg/g are the active ingredients.
Oxfendazole and Animal diseases:
If the livestock is naturally infected by cystic hydatid disease, Oxfendazole treatment is administered and is effective against the parasite Echinococcus granulosus. It is safe to treat gastrointestinal nematode parasites in sheep and goats with Oxfendazole.
Oxfendazole benefits/effectiveness/results:
Oxfendazole is highly effective in veterinary practice and is used against gastrointestinal parasites in goats, sheep, cattle, and horses. Oxfendazole is rich in proteins than other drugs, protecting the sheep, cattle, and grazing animals. Oxfendazole is effective to restore normal health. Oxfendazole protects the livestock against the diseases caused by earthworms, roundworms, and pinworms. Oxfendazole is administered as an oral paste and feed additives for horses, and as a drench for dogs and pets. Repeated treatment at regular intervals is advisable to keep the pets and livestock free from diseases.
